Cougnaud Campus: French modular construction leader uses ArcelorMittal tubes and facade elements in new headquarters

Cougnaud, a French leader in industrialised modular construction, chose tubes and facade elements from ArcelorMittal Europe – Tubular Products and ArcelorMittal Construction for the erection of its Cougnaud Campus building. This new building groups together the operational functions of the company’s construction branch and houses its 250 employees.

Detailed information

A fully sustainable building

Based in the Vendée region of France, the Cougnaud Group is organised around two complementary businesses: construction and rental living and working spaces for professionals in the private and public sectors. The company is a long-term customer of ArcelorMittal Europe – Tubular Products and purchases 8000 tonnes of steel tubes per year.

For the construction of their new administrative building, called Cougnaud Campus, they naturally turned to ArcelorMittal for the supply of tubes as well as facade elements. With a surface area of 5000 m², the prefabricated modular Cougnaud Campus is a sustainable building where everything has been thought out to limit its carbon impact, and it fully complies with RE2020 environmental regulations.

This off-site construction project was selected by ADEME (Agence de l’environnement et de la maîtrise d’énergie / Agency for the Environment and Energy Management) to contribute to the definition of the outlines for the RE2020 regulations. The teams gained expertise in technical solutions and monitoring of the building's performance in terms of energy production with carbon reduction serving as a guideline.

Architecturally, the building's design was tailored to the employees’ needs and new styles of working. The large open spaces encourage exchange and stimulate collaborative work with innovation being the centre of attention. It offers an avant-garde work environment that anticipates the company's evolution and ensures optimum user comfort. As a 'Smart Building', the campus features innovative technologies to optimise comfort, energy saving, and security.

A fruitful collaboration between ArcelorMittal Downstream Solutions' business divisions

ArcelorMittal Europe – Tubular Products and ArcelorMittal Construction both collaborated on this project.

ArcelorMittal Europe – Tubular Products supplied tubes from its mills in Lexy, France and Fabril, Spain that were used to build the structure of the building (floor frame, poles, frame).

ArcelorMittal Construction supplied Cougnaud with 1200 m² of ST 500 flat sidings for the facade through customer EC2I. The entire cladding was realised with these sidings, which Cougnaud particularly appreciated for their specific design.

The entire production process for the sidings took place in France. The hot rolled coils were produced by ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products in Dunkirk followed by coating on the ArcelorMittal Construction coating line in Contrisson and final profiling in Cérons.

Once more, ArcelorMittal and its high-quality steel products have contributed to a flagship project of sustainable construction that proved a faster, more intelligent, and more environmentally friendly construction process is possible.
