Air Liquide and ArcelorMittal join forces to accelerate the decarbonisation of steel production11 May 2021
In March 2021, Air Liquide and ArcelorMittal signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the objective of implementing solutions to produce low-carbon steel in Dunkirk. The two companies are joining forces to transform the steel production process through the development of innovative solutions involving low-carbon hydrogen and CO2 capture technologies. This partnership is the first step towards the creation of a new low-carbon hydrogen and CO2 capture technologies ecosystem in this major industrial basin.

2021 is the European Year of Rail.Officially launched on 29 March by the European Commission, the European Year of Rail will aim to highlight the benefits of rail as a sustainable, smart, and safe means of transport. “Environmentally-friendly and energy-efficient, rail will play a crucial role in helping the EU become climate neutral by 2050. The COVID-19 crisis has also shown how rail transport can facilitate the supply of essential goods such as medical devices, food, and fuel in exceptional circumstances” declared Oleg Butković, Croatian Minister for the Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure, President of the Council of the EU.
ArcelorMittal Asturias starts coke oven gas injection for Blast Furnace B15 April 2021
In February 2021, ArcelorMittal Asturias completed its coke oven gas (COG) injection project for Blast Furnace B in its Gijón plant, a strategic step to reduce CO2 emissions and operational costs thanks to lower coke consumption. Use of this innovative technology will result in a reduction in CO2 emissions of 125 000 tonnes a year, equivalent to the emissions generated by the annual consumption of 84 000 Spanish households with individual natural gas-based heating systems*.
ArcelorMittal launches RailCor®: a new range of corrosion resistant rails4 May 2021
In March 2021, ArcelorMittal Europe – Long Products launched RailCor®, a completely new range of corrosion resistant rails to protect from severe corrosion environments no matter whether the rails: are installed inside tunnels, city centres, or coastal areas; face demanding corrosion challenges; or fight specific corrosion produced by stray currents - or even to protect the rails during shipment.
