XCarb® Recycled and renewably produced: certified low carbon products by ArcelorMittal

With only 333 kg of CO2 emissions per tonne of finished product (see the EPD), XCarb® Recycled and renewably produced beams are the first ones to offer a guarantee of 100 per cent recycled steel scrap and 100 per cent renewable electricity from solar and wind projects.

XCarb®by ArcelorMittal is an initiative that brings together all carbon-reduced and zero-carbon products under one brand. In addition to the XCarb® Recycled and renewably produced offer, ArcelorMittal's XCarb® initiatives also include XCarb® Green steel certificates for production from the blast furnace route, which are based on real CO2 savings that are independently confirmed by DNV GL.

ArcelorMittal goes the extra green mile for customers in Germany with XCarb® Recycled and renewably produced

ArcelorMittal is ramping up the availability of its XCarb® Recycled and renewably produced steel, which has a very low CO2 footprint, in Germany. Smaller customers can now buy XCarb® Recycled and renewably produced from the ArcelorMittal Downstream Solutions warehouse in Essen, and it will soon be available from the e-steel online shop.

XCarb® Recycled and renewably produced beams are available from ArcelorMittal’s warehouse in Essen in the following dimensions: HE100 to HE300 and IPE180 to IPE600 in grades S235JR+M and S355J2+M.

Contributing to the Group's commitment to net-zero steelmaking while helping steel users meet their own decarbonisation targets

By selling XCarb® Recycled and renewably produced beams, which are made at ArcelorMittal Differdange in Luxembourg, ArcelorMittal Downstream Solutions aims to contribute to the Group's commitment to net-zero steelmaking, while helping steel users to meet their own decarbonisation targets. In Germany, the demand for low-CO2 products is growing as climate change mitigation has become the most important challenge of the 21st century. Downstream Solutions supplies mainly steel construction customers, distributors, as well as construction-related partners and, through its network, offers them almost all steel products in stock, thus ensuring “just-in-time” delivery.

Downstream Solutions usually handles large requests for major German projects from their central warehouse in Essen, and this now also applies to projects requesting XCarb® beams.

“It is our duty to offer our customers the latest innovations in sustainability”

Oliver Menrath, managing director of Downstream Solutions Germany, is delighted with the first purchase of XCarb® products:

“Beams in a wide range of dimensions and grades can now be purchased in XCarb® Recycled and renewably produced. As a major player in our market, it is our duty to offer distribution customers our latest innovations, in sustainability as in any other product development. The volume we have stocked now will help us to take the first step with our customers, leading the way in a sustainable direction. While the XCarb® brand is now only available through traditional sales, we also plan to sell these low-CO2 beams through our e-steel platform later this year, becoming the first in the market to offer low-emissions steel online.”
