Lower carbon footprint thanks to XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel

Opened in December 2023 after 11 months of construction work, ArcelorMittal Distribution's site in Badajoz, Spain has duplicated its storage capacity and incorporates a spacious headquarters. On over 6700 m2 ArcelorMittal’s customers from southeastern Spain and Portugal can find a wider range of products and services, with shorter delivery times.

The new warehouse reduces its carbon footprint by utlising ArcelorMittal’s low emission XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steels. It is the first warehouse in Spain’s Extremadura region to make use of beams and columns made of XCarb® steel. XCarb® recycled and renewably produced structural steel sections are produced from recycled scrap in an EAF powered by renewable energy. In the case of structural steel sections, this allows for savings of up to 83% in CO2e compared to traditionally-produced sections.

Strengthening its market presence

Due to its location close to the border with Portugal, the distribution site serves the Spanish as well as Portuguese markets. Apart from the extended product range on offer, the updated facility provides improved and expanded services that create business opportunities to grow its customer base. A new saw, for example, allows for cutting to length with straight or mitre cuts.

Optimised inventory organisation for management and automated and paper-free management also contribute to the site’s efficiency.
