SCI confirms greater corrosion protection performance of Magnelis® compared with batch galvanising

A new independent review by the UK’s Steel Construction Institute (SCI) has confirmed the outstanding corrosion protection performance of Magnelis® coatings when compared with conventional batch galvanised coatings specified in accordance with ISO 1461.

Published: 26 August 2026

Uniquely advanced

Produced on a continuous hot dip galvanising line, Magnelis® features a unique coating composition of zinc, 3.5% aluminium, and 3% magnesium. This advanced formulation delivers exceptional corrosion resistance, including enhanced protection at cut edges through its self-healing properties.

The SCI report evaluates the performance of Magnelis® ZM310 and ZM430 coatings against traditional batch galvanised coatings. The independent review concluded that:

  • Magnelis® ZM310 provides greater corrosion protection than that of batch galvanised steel of 55 μm coating
  • Magnelis® ZM430 provides greater corrosion protection than that of batch galvanised steel of 70 μm coating
  • The self-healing mechanism of Magnelis® provides enhanced protection at unprotected (cut) edges compared to zinc galvanising

These findings further reinforce Magnelis® as a high-performance solution for projects requiring long-term durability, reduced maintenance, and reliable corrosion protection, even in challenging environments.
