Inspiring Steel - February 2021

Welcome to our February newsletter!

We hope 2021 is off to a great and safe start for you.

This month, our case study introduces the first composite bridge in Europe to be made with Arcorox® 460 weathering steel profiles – a range of sustainable steels that reduce maintenance costs. We highlight this structural steel for rolled sections and bars as one of our products of the month. Additionally, our newest steel grade page summarises the Arcorox® grades available, including their mechanical and chemical properties.

Our second featured product this month is enamelled steel, which offers colourful and durable designs in addition to being highly resistant and complying with hygiene standards. We also introduce our partner, KALDEWEI, who have been creating their own enamels with our steels for more than 40 years to manufacture high-quality bathroom solutions.

Also in this issue: ArcelorMittal’s A- score from CDP, modernisation of our steelworks in Spain, a new service centre for ArcelorMittal Rails & Special sections in Luxembourg, the new 2021 Steel foundation solutions catalogue, a research report on the use of sheet piles in underground car parks, the construction of the Jokeri tram line in Finland with ArcelorMittal rails, our response to the demands of the wind sector, a discovery of our steel from over 100 years ago, and our solutions for building interiors and composite bridges.

Finally, in case you have changed your email address or want to update your Constructalia user profile, we explain how to do so quickly and easily!

Enjoy!

Case study

Wirkowice composite bridge: Europe’s first road bridge with Arcorox® 460 weathering steel

This composite bridge in Poland is the first road bridge in Europe to be constructed with S460J2W weathering steel. As part of the design optimisation, a composite steel structure with the use of rolled profiles in this steel grade was selected. This solution allowed for weight reduction, an increase in bridge clearance, and improved resistance to atmospheric corrosion.

Product

Arcorox® weathering steel sections

image main

Arcorox® structural shapes belong to a family of atmospheric corrosion resistant and low alloy steels for sustainable applications with a focus on long service life with low maintenance costs. Aesthetically, Arcorox® uniquely suits each building's appearance, texture, and maturity of the patina depending on time, degree of exposure, and atmospheric environment.

Product

Enamelled steels

With enamelled steels, architects and designers have the opportunity to create enduring colourful designs for contemporary projects that fully meet modern-day expectations of durability, iconic aesthetics, hygiene, and respect for the environment. HC300EK grade is especially suitable for architectural panels as its mechanical performances are equivalent to those of structural steel grades.
