As a leader in steel solutions for construction, ArcelorMittal is committed to providing products, solutions, and services that contribute to sustainable building assessment and allow designers to meet higher criteria for the environmentally responsible use of resources.

Our full range of products and solutions includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • EPD – Environmental Product Declarations have been published for Granite® organic coated steels highlighting their environmental performances to reduce life cycle impact.
  • HISTAR® high strength steel sections reduce construction weight and optimise resource consumption during the design and construction stage.
  • Magnelis® metallic coated steel provides longer durability, when compared to conventional zinc coated material, with lower coating thickness.

EPDs are also available for other products and the corresponding new publications will be released soon. Moreover, our full product range is 100% reusable and contains recycled steel content, which makes it a part of circular economy development at local and global level.

At ArcelorMittal, sustainability is one of our core values, and we support the construction industry in best sustainability practices deployment worldwide.

Sustainable building certification

Buildings have extensive direct and indirect impacts on the environment. During their construction, occupancy, renovation, repurposing, and eventually during demolition and recycling, buildings are responsible for a huge share of energy, water, and raw material consumption as well as generate waste and atmospheric emissions.

The above concerns have prompted the development of green building standards, certifications, and rating systems aimed at assessing buildings’ impacts on the natural environment through sustainable design, construction, and maintenance practice.

The pressure to shift toward sustainable design increased in the 1990s along with the launch of Building Research Establishment's Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) - the first green building rating system in the U.K. - and HQE®, Haute Qualité Environnementale, in France. The development of BREEAM encouraged other countries to follow the trend as well. In the US and Germany, the Green Building Council (USGBC) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen (DGNB) released criteria aimed at improving the environmental performance of buildings through its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system.
