Inspiring Steel - October 2020

Welcome to our October newsletter!

Our case study this month takes us to an historic seaside town in England on the River Adur. Flooding issues and a breach of the previous defences resulted in the construction of the Shoreham Adur Tidal Walls flood defence scheme. A challenge was to protect properties and the flora and fauna along the estuary. ArcelorMittal sheet piles, including our proprietary HZ®/AZ® system, were part of the solution. Explore our extensive range of sheet pile productions and solutions.

What else have we got in store this month? Discover how HISTAR® is helping to sway a concrete-oriented culture via two bridge projects in Central America, and find out how our steel products and solutions for towers and turbines are meeting the needs of the wind energy market.

Check out the most recent additions to our Document library before downloading the updated Portal+ pre design software from our Software centre.

Dutch artist William Roobrouck explains why ArcelorMittal’s Indaten® weathering steel is one of his materials of choice, and we introduce you to our partner, Inter-Max, who specialise in the production of steel roofing profiles.

Our glossary for steel in construction has expanded – and it is available in six languages!

An addition to our collection of technical articles includes a study of composite mega columns with hot-rolled steel sections for modern high-rise buildings. It offers suggested simplified design methods based on European, Chinese, and American codes.

Finally, check out our solutions and products for foundations and mechanical resistance and stability for your next project!

Enjoy!

Shoreham Adur Tidal Walls: a flood defence scheme with ArcelorMittal sheet piles

The Shoreham Adur Tidal Walls flood defence scheme was implemented in Shoreham-by-Sea, situated on the River Adur estuary in England. ArcelorMittal U and Z sheet piles and a combined wall were utilised in this project to protect residential and business properties in addition to preserving flora and fauna.

HISTAR® 460 makes a grand entrance in Central America

For political and economic reasons, in addition to a concrete-oriented culture, steel is not a preferred solution in Central America. However, this may change thanks to the first project in the region involving HISTAR®. Beams from ArcelorMittal Europe – Long Products were used to build a new bridge in Honduras.
