ConstruirAcier appoints new president from ArcelorMittal

With his passion for steel construction evident throughout an entire career devoted to steel in construction, ArcelorMittal Europe’s Patrick Le Pense has been appointed the new president of the steel promotion organisation ConstruirAcier.

Motivated and committed

The ConstruirAcier Board of Directors assembled in May 2022 to appoint a successor to the outgoing president, Michel Julien-Vauzelle. It is now Patrick Le Pense who will continue to keep the association moving forward in its mission to promote steel construction.

Stepping into his new role as president, Patrick Le Pense stated that “it is a great honour for me to have been elected President of ConstruirAcier. With the whole team of ConstruirAcier, motivated and committed, but also with all the members and partners of the association, we will continue to develop and promote steel-based solutions in construction, with the objective of positioning steel as one of the preferred materials of choice for sustainable construction and the circular economy.”

A passion for sustainable steel construction and the circular economy

A civil engineer from École Royale des Ponts et Chaussées (now known as École des Ponts ParisTech), Patrick Le Pense has devoted his career to steel construction by working for major steel groups. At ArcelorMittal, he managed the Innovation and Construction segment for two years, and then the Design and Engineering segment between 2011 and 2013. In 2014, he became Marketing Innovation Construction Director at ArcelorMittal Europe - Flat Products. He was President of the Metals for Buildings European alliance from 2012 to 2021 and remains a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Association Française des Industries des Produits de Construction (AIMCC).

Not only is Patrick Le Pense well-equipped for this new position, but his passion for promoting steel as a material for sustainable construction and the circular economy is evident: "I am convinced that we must devote all the resources we have today and will have tomorrow, whatever they may be, to one requirement: to position steel, our material, as one of the preferred materials for sustainable construction and the circular economy, starting today."
