SCHRAG

German company SCHRAG is a leading provider of edge profile solutions for lightweight metal construction, and their high-quality profiles are widely used in industrial and commercial construction. With steel playing a substantial role in SCHRAG’s tailor-made solutions, ArcelorMittal Europe supplies a range of metallic coated and painted coils, including Magnelis®. These products are typically utilised to create SCHRAG’s bent profiles which are used as lightweight parts for roofing and cladding.

Working together to share the benefits of Magnelis®

For a number of years, ArcelorMittal has been working with SCHRAG to publicise the benefits of Magnelis® metallic coated steel in the German and eastern European markets. This cooperation has led to Magnelis® being recognised as an exceptional metallic coating which provides breakthrough corrosion protection.

Thanks to a Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) Technical National Approval for Magnelis®, which recognises that Magnelis® resists corrosion for more than 15 years and allows it to be specified for construction applications in Germany and other markets that rely on DIBt standards, SCHRAG utilises Magnelis® with confidence in its thin-walled cold-formed components, even when they are deployed in highly corrosive atmospheres. According to Gunnar Koelsch, “Magnelis® ZM310 is the only zinc-magnesium coating which remains durable for more than 15 years according to DIBt. And the approval covers constructions in zones with a corrosivity rating of C4 under the European norm ISO 12944-2. This is unique.”

A long history with customers at the forefront

SCHRAG has a long history with uncompromising customer orientation. Founded in 1892 as a small company producing enamelled, tinned, and galvanised products, the company is now managed by the fourth generation of the family, developing new products and services with its customers at the forefront over 15 locations in Austria, Czechia, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, and Switzerland.

One of SCHRAG’s goals is to act as a problem solver for its customers. Common projects and long-term partnerships are essential for this as Gunnar Koelsch, head of purchasing at SCHRAG, explains: “A real partnership requires long-term cooperation, commercial and technical transparency. We have found such a partnership with ArcelorMittal.”

Continued cooperation – now with XCarb® green steel certificates

In 2021, SCHRAG began to purchase XCarb® green steel certificates with its orders of Magnelis® from ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products.

Openness and fostering a culture of knowledge are very important at SCHRAG. That openness is one of the reasons the company is making XCarb® green steel certificates available to its customers. Ingo Kleinau, Hamburg Branch Manager for SCHRAG, explains: “SCHRAG Group always tries to see itself as a problem solver for our customers. We want to be one step ahead of the market so that we can inform our customers about developments at an early stage and offer solutions. With this knowledge, each customer can decide for themselves what advantages the XCarb® green steel certificates bring to their operations.”

SCHRAG will also promote the certificates in its own marketing materials. “In this way we will make it clear to the outside world what SCHRAG is working on, and where we place value and focus,” says Ingo Kleinau.

Working with a global steel manufacturer like ArcelorMittal offers SCHRAG both a supplier and a partner, notes Ingo Kleinau: “It is an advantage to have a supplier who also attaches importance to the further development of steel production and the use of sustainable technology. ArcelorMittal’s experience and global know-how ultimately also enriches the level of knowledge at SCHRAG.”
