Technical information

ArcelorMittal welded hollow sections can be produced by three different manufacturing routes:

Cold forming
Cold-formed hollow sections are manufactured by continuous forming at room temperature a steel strip passing through forming stands who progressively bend into a circular shape that enter in welding stand for joining strip edges together into a continuous longitudinal weld seam. After the welding station, outside seam of the circular tube is removed, and final shape (circular, square, rectangular) and dimensional precision of tube are achieved by passing through sizing stands. Cutting saw divide infinite length of welded tube in individual lengths as standard or customer required. Weld seam are in line inspected with NDT electromagnetic method.
These products meet all the EN 10219 requirements.

Hot forming (stretch reduction)
Hot-formed hollow sections are manufactured by obtaining in a first step a cold -formed hollow section (mother tube) by continuous forming at room temperature a steel strip passing through forming stands who progressively bend into a circular shape that enter in welding stand for joining strip edges together into a continuous longitudinal weld seam.
This mother tube passes through continuous furnace to heat full body of tube in order to be malleable, and passing in hot condition through several rolling  stands to reduce diameter and thickness to achieve final shape, dimension and precision (circular, square, rectangular).
These products meet all the EN 10210 requirements.

Hot finishing
Hot-finished hollow sections are manufactured by obtaining in first step cold -formed hollow section by continuous forming at room temperature a steel strip passing through forming stands who progressively bend into a circular shape that enter in welding stand for joining strip edges together into a continuous longitudinal weld seam. After the welding station, outside seam of the circular tube is removed, and final shape (circular, square, rectangular) and dimensional precision of tube are achieved by passing through sizing stands. Cutting saw divide infinite length of welded tube in individual lengths as standard or customer required.
After cutting, the obtained tube (in its definitive shape) is heated up in furnace in order to release any internal residual stress.
These products meet all the EN 10210 requirements.
